Rail engineers are making good progress to recover a derailed freight train in Carlisle so major repairs can take place to get the railway reopened for passengers as soon as possible.

Passengers using Manchester Piccadilly station are being urged to ‘think in threes’ as the Christmas markets return to the city.

Passengers will soon benefit from the major overhaul of an historic station footbridge on the Cumbrian Coast line.

• London Northwestern Railway services will be significantly reduced on Friday 4 November due to a strike by the TSSA

• On those days a special timetable will be in place with only four trains per hour leaving London Euston
