Network Rail today published its annual report and accounts for the 12 months to 31 March 2019, a year which saw almost 3,000 new services a week added to the network providing much needed capacity and extra seats as investment in Britain’s infrastructure hit a record high.

Network Rail has today launched a new safety task force, backed with a £70m fund, to target track-worker safety, bringing together multiple strands of work from across the company aimed at improving safety for employees that work on the railway.

Network Rail has published a framework that sets out the long-term delivery of digital signalling, to bring significant benefits to passengers and help suppliers to plan resources.

Network Rail has announced the award of 17 multi-million-pound framework contracts to deliver minor signalling works across the country, worth an estimated £215m for Control Period 6 (2019-2024).

A project to ‘listen’ to rail lines and spot problems before they delay passengers is one of the initiatives coming out of Network Rail £245m investment in research and development (R&D) during Control Period 6 (2019-2024).
