As the cold mornings draw in and the leaves start to brown, Network Rail is busily preparing its 61 leaf-busting trains to keep passengers moving safely over autumn.

Passengers are set to benefit from a railway that can better cope with extreme weather and increased demand after Network Rail pledged millions of pounds to work with universities to boost research and development. 

Network Rail and Hack Partners, the company behind the HackTrain initiative, have launched a new post-hackathon fund designed to accelerate the development of innovative ideas to improve rail services for passengers.

Network Rail’s regional directors have each confirmed a series of appointments to their senior management teams as the company’s 14 new routes go live today (Monday 16 September).

Network Rail has awarded major contracts to both Altran and AECOM to support the delivery of work within its Safety, Technical and Engineering (STE) Strategic Plan over Control Period 6 (2019-2024).
