Network Rail and Strukton Rail have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the delivery of Network Rail’s £245m research and development (R&D) portfolio in Control Period 6.

• £111m to be invested to improve the network over the Christmas and New Year period

With an increase in the number of large goods vehicles expected on Britain’s roads to meet demand for deliveries over Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the Christmas period, Network Rail is issuing a plea to drivers to always check the height of their vehicles before making their journeys. 

Network Rail and British Transport Police are urging rail passengers to make sure the only thing they regret after a night out over the Christmas period is a lighter bank balance or a hangover, as newly-released figures show a 30% increase in drink-related incidents on the railway in the last decade.

Network Rail’s new geographic regions, established in June, today took on accountability for the delivery of all projects within their borders, including track and signalling. 

Network Rail and train operators are warning passengers of severe disruption on several routes across the north of England this morning as heavy rain has caused severe flooding on the railway.
