Network Rail Consulting, a wholly owned subsidiary of Network Rail – the owner and operator of Britain’s railway infrastructure – has appointed Jason Wassermann as its new regional director for the Middle East.

Repairs to a 500,000-tonne landslip in Cumbria will see the iconic Settle to Carlisle railway line fully reopen to trains by the end of March 2017, Network Rail announced today (7 July).

Commenting on today’s publication of the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) Network Rail Monitor Scotland, Phil Verster, Managing Director of Network Rail Scotland and of the ScotRail Alliance said:

Network Rail has issued an urgent safety warning after an adult and child ran in front of a train travelling at up to 80mph yesterday (Sunday, 3 July).

More rail journeys happened last year than at any time in railway history, Network Rail’s annual report reveals today, enabling economic growth, job creation and housebuilding.
