Buses will replace trains between Hastings, Rye and Ashford International while engineers work on the tunnel

The Blackheath Tunnel reopened on Monday 12 August following 10-week closure for essential repairs

• The 175-year-old tunnel needed repairs to its brickwork to stop water leaks damaging the railway

• The £10m programme of investment will help deliver better journeys for Southeastern customers by reducing delays and improving reliability.

• Mosaic supported by Network Rail and made of 250,000 glass pieces in a range of 28 colours by 70 volunteers 
• The largest-ever commission by the London School of Mosaic, with more than 21 million people projected to pass by each year, the mosaic will last for at least 150 years 

• Station provides highspeed and Main Line services to central London and Kent and is designed to be a catalyst for future investment and growth
• Since opening, around 91,000 journeys have been made to or from the station
• To mark the occasion, Network Rail and Southeastern staff gathered to enjoy a slice of birthday cake

Network Rail is urging people to stay off the tracks and not put themselves and others at risk new safety figures reveal that there were more than 19,300 trespass incidents (2,685 on the Kent routes) on the rail network in the 2023/24 financial year – that’s one every half an hour.
