Today (February 27), TRU welcomed Rail Minister Lord Peter Hendy to Ravensthorpe and Huddersfield in West Yorkshire, to see the progress being made in transforming train travel in the north of England on the Transpennine Route Upgrade. 

A 50-tonne footbridge has been installed by Network Rail at Darlington station – marking a major milestone in the £140m transport hub transformation.

Next Monday (March 3), the TRU team will begin engineering work between Ravensthorpe and Leeds, with weekday services affected until Friday 21 March. Weekend services remain unimpacted during this period.

Passengers are advised that this week’s engineering work between Doncaster and Goole/Scunthorpe will be extended to allow for an ageing bridge deck to be replaced.

James Richardson has this week started his role as the new TRU Managing Director, heading up the North of England’s multi-billion-pound railway programme that will deliver more frequent, faster trains on a more reliable railway, better connecting millions of people across the North, between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York. 

From Friday 28 February until Monday 7 April, Whitacre Street in Deighton will be closed to vehicles as TRU engineers deliver upgrades.

Police investigating trespassing which caused severe disruption – affecting thousands of passengers' journeys – have issued this CCTV image.

As upgrades continue in Huddersfield as part of TRU, the A641 Bradford Road / Northgate will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians over some Sundays and full weekends between February and May 2025.
