Passenger services between Leicester and Peterborough will resume on Wednesday 23 November, after a bridge strike in Ketton, Rutland caused extensive damage, leading to the closure of the line.  

Network Rail engineers have completed a £13.2m project to secure a railway embankment near Morpeth station on the East Coast Main Line, protecting the line for years to come. 

• Harlaxton Road in Grantham is officially one of the worst bridges in the country for bridge strikes, having been struck 17 times in 2021/22. 
• Across Britain, more than 1,800 bridges were hit in 2021/22, costing Network Rail almost £12 million in delay and cancellation fees. 
• Network Rail has launched a new animation as part of its ‘Wise Up, Size Up’ campaign, urging lorry drivers to know the height of their vehicle, look out for road signs and slow down when approaching a bridge. 

Vital upgrades at Harringay station will get underway this week, as passengers will benefit from a better footbridge and brand-new waiting shelters on platforms one and two.

Bridlington station is now a hive of activity as a multi-million-pound overhaul to offer a better experience for passengers and make the station more accessible gets underway.

Passengers intending to travel to and from London and other destinations on the East Coast Main Line via Peterborough, and across Great Northern routes over the weekend of 7 and 8 January are being asked to plan ahead due to engineering work and check how their journey may be affected.

Barrow Haven’s brand-new £1.3m platform has now been completed, with the North Lincolnshire station now fully re-open to passengers.
