Network Rail has successfully completed two major pieces of festive engineering work which will improve the Midland Main Line, enhancing the route for all passengers who use it.

Work to improve reliability for train passengers in and out of Liverpool was completed successfully last night.

The railway between London Euston, the West Midlands, the North West and Cumbria fully reopened today after a series of vital upgrades over the Christmas break.

Major upgrades have been completed on the region’s rail network to make improvements for passengers in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and East London.

Whilst most people were enjoying the festive period with their families, 35 Network Rail workers were busy moving control of the signalling system from the Integrated Electronic Control Centre (IECC) to the state of the art Rail Operating Centre (ROC) in York.

Passengers returning to work today (2 January) are benefiting from more reliable infrastructure, improved facilities and services after a £148m Christmas programme of investment across the network successfully completed on-time today.

Network Rail’s ‘team orange’ have successfully carried out a number of upgrades over the festive period to provide a better, more reliable train service for passengers on the south western rail network.
