Passengers travelling between Newport and Bristol and between Newport and Gloucester are advised to check before travelling this Christmas and New Year, as Network Rail engineers work around the clock to modernise the South Wales Main Line.

The news comes as the railway infrastructure company says it is transforming, and increasingly opening up to new ideas that bring value for money and innovation.

The overhead power lines on the railway between Walsall and Rugeley Trent Valley are now live as work continues to introduce electric trains on the route.

Network Rail South East marked the 100^th anniversary of the end of the First World War with a series of remembrance events at stations as respects were paid to the railway workers and all those who served, sacrificed and changed our world.
