Passengers and road users in Lancashire will soon benefit from a multi-million-pound level crossing upgrade.

Network Rail work to renew the track between Bourne End and Marlow will see the railway close for a two-week period from this weekend.  

As part of plans to reduce the risks for those using level crossings by creating a safer, more reliable railway, Network Rail today announced it has been granted the powers to close or modify 16 level crossings across Cambridgeshire.

Work is about to start on upgrading lifts at Clapham Junction station, to take advantage of the temporary drop in passenger numbers.

Passengers in Cumbria are being advised to plan their journeys over coming weekends when Network Rail upgrades track near Bootle station.

Network Rail is appealing to drivers of heavy goods vehicles to take more care around low bridges. Thurlow Park Road in Tulse Hill, London was the most hit bridge in the last year with 14 strikes, causing unnecessary delays and safety risks for rail passengers, motorists and locals.

Bridges in Kent are being hit by high vehicles more than twice a week so Network Rail are reminding drivers to know the height of their vehicle before they set off or face tough penalties.

Network Rail and Govia Thameslink Railway have reopened the lifts for passengers at Luton Airport Parkway station after a major three-month project to upgrade them.
