Edinburgh Waverley’s newly-extended platform 12 entered service last Sunday (December 10).

Network Rail today (Wednesday December 13) announced that Carillion Powerlines Ltd has won a further contract to deliver work on the electrification of the Shotts line between Holytown Junction and Midcalder Junction.

Enhancement works at Abergele and Pensarn station in North Wales have been completed by Network Rail.

Network Rail held workshops in two Northamptonshire schools to highlight the dangers of playing on railway lines as new overhead line equipment is installed.

• 7,419 recorded alcohol-related incidents on and around the railway in 2016/17 – an increase of 17% compared with 2015/16¹
• 16% of those incidents happened over the festive period²
• Network Rail, British Transport Police and RSSB unite to encourage people to “Keep a Clear Head” on and around the railway

Train customers in the West Midlands are being urged to plan journeys in advance and allow extra time over the festive period while work takes place to make the railway more reliable.

Three lucky children took a festive train trip with Santa on the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways on Sunday [10 December] after winning a rail safety poster competition organised by Network Rail’s local level crossing team.
