Engineers have completed the partial demolition of Splott Road bridge as work continues to prepare the railway from London to Cardiff for the overhead wires and posts needed to power trains running on electricity.

Network Rail is looking for six new apprentices in Norfolk and Suffolk for its award-winning engineering apprenticeship scheme to start in March next year.

The redevelopment of London Bridge station and the surrounding railway ­– part of the government-sponsored Thameslink Programme – moved a step closer to completion this weekend after a successful eight days of engineering work to the railway in central London completed on-time.

Passengers will be able to travel by train between Bolton and Manchester next week when the line reopens early after a burst water main caused major damage to a bridge.

Railway companies running the East Coast Main Line (ECML) have got together to form a dedicated Route Supervisory Board.  The board will ensure there is one voice representing customers, holding the rail industry to account and ensuring the different elements work together to drive improvements.
