A major programme of work to modernise the Great Western Mainline this Easter will see platforms at Bath Spa station widened in preparation for longer trains providing over a fifth more seats for passengers.

As part of Glasgow Queen Street station’s redevelopment, work will begin next week on a project to prepare for the extension of platform 1.

• Improvements being delivered in the South East include: the Thameslink Programme –which is building a new station at London Bridge; a new station building at Strood in Kent; a new platform at Redhill, and better journey times between Ramsgate and Ashford
• Improvements already delivered since 2014 include a completely new station in Rochester, Kent and new signalling through the Medway Towns
• £100 million is spent every single week by Network Rail on improving the railway in Britain

• Every weekday 190,000 passengers travel with Greater Anglia from 132 stations. The company is committed to improving the service with more trains, faster journeys and more seats, spending £1.4 billion on all new trains

• Network Rail successfully electrifies 12 miles of railway from Maidenhead to Stockley Junction as part of the Crossrail project
