Passengers are being thanked for their patience and cooperation following the first month of weekend closures of Salford Crescent station in March.

Network Rail is advising passengers traveling between London Euston and Scotland over the Easter bank holiday to plan their journeys either side of the long weekend while essential upgrades take place on the West Coast Main Line.

This week has seen the start of testing at speed for the world’s first operational steam locomotive to be fitted with ETCS (European Train Control System) technology.

Passengers travelling between London Euston and Scotland are being advised to plan their journeys in advance over the Easter bank holiday weekend.  

• Services between Southampton and Portsmouth will not run for between 12 and 20 April 2025
• Weekend closures between Southampton Central and Bournemouth to impact Main Line services
• Buses will replace all trains from Southampton Central on Easter Sunday
• Line connecting Twickenham and Teddington, in south west London, to be closed for three days over the Easter weekend. Rail replacement buses will run.

Thousands of Birmingham City fans will head to London this weekend for the Vertu Trophy Cup Final, meaning trains and stations will be busier than normal.

A new interactive experience is open to help children from Edinburgh and the Lothians understand the dangers of playing on or near the railway.  

Passengers are set to benefit from step-free access at Hither Green station thanks to a £28m funding boost from the Department for Transport’s Access for All (AfA) programme.
