Network Rail has begun the third major stage of work to create Mid Cornwall Metro (MCM) and transform coast-to-coast rail travel in the county.

Railway 200 marks the bicentenary of the first passenger railway journey on the Stockton & Darlington Railway in 1825.

So far, over 200 events celebrating the past, present and future of the railway have been scheduled across Britain over the coming year. More events are being added to Railway 200's website every week.

The following is a list of events and booking opportunities in February and March which may be of interest your readers.

Passengers are being advised of changes to services while important ground investigations take place north of Barnsley.

• Julien Dehornoy joins Network Rail from Keolis Downer, Australia.
• Joining in April 2025, Julien will be the new deputy regional managing director for the North West & Central Region (NW&C).
• The new role is an intent to bring in new thinking and expertise to prepare the industry for track and train integration as part of Great British Railways.

Rail passengers and the wider community are being thanked for their patience following essential renewal work at Skerne Road level crossing in Driffield.

Passengers are urged to check before they travel between Swansea and Carmarthen/Llandrindod on two weekends in February when Network Rail will be carrying out a range of essential work, including track renewals and resignalling.

Passengers are being advised about work taking place in March to replace the station entrance lift on platform 3 at Lancaster station.

As part of TRU’s First and Last Mile scheme, funding has been granted to waterways charity Canal & River Trust to complete the upgrade of the canal towpath between Shepley Bridge Marina and Station Road in Mirfield, with work starting next week (Monday 10 February).
