Passengers travelling between New Mills Central and Manchester Piccadilly are being warned of disruption to train journeys as urgent work is carried out on the railway embankment.

Network Rail is to spend £22m on improving drainage on the rail network across its East Coast route to help prevent major disruption brought to passengers by landslips and heavy rain, and to increase safety.

Passengers are being asked to check before they travel between Bangor and Holyhead on four weekends in April and May when Network Rail will be carrying out essential track renewals.

With a £2.6 billion, five-year funding package for Control Period 7 (CP7), Network Rail’s Anglia route is today (3 April 2024), embarking on a rail improvement plan aimed at delivering a simpler, better, greener railway that provides the best level of train performance possible.

£27m is to be spent by Network Rail to improve drainage on the East Midlands’ rail network, helping to prevent major disruption brought to passengers by landslips and heavy rain.

£60m is going to be spent improving drainage on the rail network in Yorkshire and the North East to help prevent major disruption brought to passengers by landslips and heavy rain, and to increase safety.
