Rail passengers travelling between Birmingham New Street and Lichfield Trent Valley on the Cross City line are being urged to plan their journeys over the Easter holidays while vital track and signalling work takes place.

A new fully accessible footbridge and lift towers are now in place at Uddingston station.

Network Rail has completed its £1.6m project to complete essential upgrade works on Rannoch viaduct.

From Saturday 16 March to Sunday 24 March, the Hope Valley Railway Upgrade team worked around the clock to deliver vital upgrades, as the programme edges closer to full completion.

Control Period 6, or CP6, is the rail infrastructure manager’s sixth, five-year funding period, which started on 1 April 2019 and will finish on 31 March 2024. During this time, Network Rail has successfully delivered major rail upgrades across Great Britain to improve the railway for its passengers and freight users, while navigating unprecedented change inside and outside the railway. 

Jenny Gilruth, MSP for Mid-Fife and Glenrothes, visited the site of the Levenmouth Rail Link last week (Friday 22 March) to get the latest update on the project.  

Throughout the weekend, railway engineers have been inspecting the damage and carrying out ground investigations after a Northern train derailed in Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria on Friday 22 March.
