DAMAGE TO TROWSE SWINGBRIDGE

At around 14.30 yesterday a section of overhead cable (insulator cable) was damaged on the Trowse swingbridge. Trowse swingbridge is situated over a river and swings across to allow boats through. There is one overhead line which runs through the middle of the bridge. Part of the insulator cable became damaged as the bridge swung to allow a boat through. Services were stopped from Diss and Wymondham and Network Rail staff were shortly on the scene to ensure the site was safe. Engineers were called out and arrived at 16.45. Bus replacement services were in place from Diss and Wymondham to Norwich. Trains services were able to resume at around 20.00. Boats will not currently be allowed to pass. Engineering work will be going on this weekend so the bridge can resume normal working for Monday morning. There have been some faults with the swingbridge in the past but Network Rail is working hard to ensure that it works safely and efficiently. Network Rail apologises for the delay this has caused and will be undertaking a full investigation into what happened. -
