The season ticket holders’ car park at Cambridge station has undergone a transformation thanks to £70,000 of investment by Network Rail. The previously unsurfaced car park was strewn with pot holes, loose stones and big puddles, but the work has seen the car park levelled and surfaced with 105 herringbone parking bays and directional arrows painted on. Jon Wiseman, Network Rail Regional Director said: “The car park at Cambridge has always been well used, even in its former condition.  We had identified the need for improvements some time ago, but funding was very limited.  However, recently an opportunity presented itself and we didn’t hesitate in allocating the money to this car park.” Managing director of ‘one’, Tim Clarke, said:  “This is an excellent improvement scheme which will greatly benefit customers who park at the station. Providing adequate car parking at stations is extremely important to encourage more people to travel by rail.” Network Rail is very pleased to have been able to enhance this land and in turn improve the impression that the thousands of tourists get when they arrive in the historic and beautiful city of Cambridge.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
