Passengers are advised to plan ahead as essential upgrades on the Midland Main Line will disrupt services to and from London St Pancras this Christmas.

Friday (December 13) marked the first anniversary of the opening of the new £15m East Linton station.

Passengers across East Anglia are being reminded to check before travelling this Christmas as London Liverpool Street will be closed for eight days and engineering work will close all routes in the Cambridge area until 5 January. 

Trains are running once again between Newquay and Par in Cornwall this afternoon after Network Rail completed emergency repairs.

Major work to protect and strengthen historic Yarm Viaduct for passengers and freight is nearly complete.

Network Rail engineers will be busy carrying out a range of projects across the Wales & Borders route over Christmas – but the good news for passengers is that the work is scheduled to take place when the railway is closed.

• Key upgrade work at Brookwood, between Farnborough and Woking, will mean significantly longer journeys
• Services between Waterloo and Southampton/Weymouth will be diverted, adding 45 minutes to journeys
• There will be no direct services between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids
• Passengers encouraged to check before travelling and plan journeys in advance

Network Rail has announced plans to fully refurbish the footbridge at Ravenglass station on the Cumbrian Coast Line.
