A new lift and additional staircase have been formally opened at Maidenhead station with a ceremony to celebrate Network Rail’s investment.

Some platforms at Manchester Piccadilly will be closed to the public while engineers continue to install new netting to the station’s iconic glass roof.

Extra rail replacement buses are being laid on to ensure one of Wales’ premier food festivals is a great success this year, despite the planned closure of the railway.

Improvements which will provide passengers with step-free access to trains at Warwick station are progressing with the next phase of work underway this week.

• Critical piece of railway infrastructure – almost 17 million passenger journeys are made across the viaduct every year
• Originally built using 11 million bricks and opened in 1841

Passengers and motorists are strongly urged to check their travel plans as Network Rail prepares for a multi-million-pound bridge replacement this weekend.

Network Rail have been supporting the Swanage Railway, a heritage line in Dorset, by providing a Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) to help treat the railway and keep it weed-free

• The Island Line will close from Ryde Pier Head to Shanklin between Friday 6 September and Sunday 6 October for vital maintenance
• Ryde Pier will close from Friday 6 September 2024 until May 2025 while life extension work continues
• One train every 30 minutes will operate between Ryde Esplanade and Shanklin from Monday 7 October to early May 2025
• Rail replacement bus services will operate during both closures
