The next steps in a major investment across the East Kilbride and Barrhead railway lines will begin next month.

• The Island Line will close from Ryde Pier Head to Shanklin between Friday 6 September and Sunday 6 October for vital maintenance
• Ryde Pier will close from Friday 6 September 2024 until May 2025 while life extension work continues
• One train every 30 minutes will operate between Ryde Esplanade and Shanklin from Monday 7 October to early May 2025
• Rail replacement bus services will operate during both closures

 Harry Styles fans are being encouraged to sign a new, purpose-built wall as an alternative to the Grade II listed Twemlow viaduct that has become a shrine to the pop superstar.

Never mind models and artwork, a new design of accessible bridge has been constructed to its full size, with fully-operational lifts to give constructors and clients the chance to “try before they buy” and see for themselves how quickly the modular design can be built.

Network Rail is set to carry out track work on a Grade II listed bridge over the River Thames between Kew Gardens and Gunnersbury stations during four weekends from September to October.

Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU), in partnership with Kirklees Council and Canal & River Trust, has released its plans to upgrade the canal towpath between Shepley Bridge Marina and Station Road. The rail upgrade programme will also provide improvements to Mirfield Memorial Park.

Passengers travelling via Cambridge and Ely are being asked to check their journey plans before travelling as major engineering and station construction work will affect most weekends from mid September to the end of November. 

Train operators have been offered the opportunity to gain discounts on their track access charges by Network Rail in a bid to encourage new business to the railway, particularly freight.
