Network Rail fully reopened Waterloo station this morning after completing one of the largest and most complex upgrades in the station’s history.

Southeastern passengers diverted to and from London Blackfriars today (Tuesday 29 August) have been thanked for their patience following confirmation that the affected trains – 40 in total each day – will run to and from Waterloo as planned from tomorrow (Wednesday) and for the remainder of the working week.

Passengers on trains travelling between Ely and Peterborough are travelling over a much stronger and reliable railway bridge over the Briggate River in Whittlesey, Peterborough today, following its installation over the August bank holiday weekend.

New overhead wire was installed at Brentwood this weekend, to improve reliability on the main line between Norwich and London as part of Network Rail’s Railway Upgrade Plan.

The railway between Rugeley Trent Valley and Walsall reopened on time today (29 August) after 16 days of work to upgrade the Chase line. 

Passengers are benefiting from a better, more reliable railway after a number of significant upgrades over the bank holiday weekend were successfully completed on time.

Rail passengers in Kent are asked to check before travelling on Tuesday 29 August as trains which had been diverted to run into Waterloo while major improvement work is carried out in and around London Bridge will run to and from London Blackfriars instead. The number of trains running will not be affected.
