Repair works are close to completion on the Ely and Peterborough rail line following a collision between a freight train and a tractor last week, which means the line will reopen tomorrow (Tuesday 24 August).

In all, more than 40 miles of railway was closed, from Saturday, 14 August, until Sunday, 22 August, for a mixture of upgrades and maintenance across over 120 different sites. Buses replaced trains between Arundel, Horsham, Crawley and Dorking for the nine days.

• Passengers are advised to ‘look before they book’, travel at quieter times and out of respect for others, wear a face covering in busy indoor settings

Passengers travelling by train this bank holiday in the Anglia region will be able to do so as Network Rail’s engineering work has been planned to minimise disruption.

A graffiti hit squad which will target tags and vandalism on the railway has been launched in the West Midlands.

• Some routes will be affected by the upgrade works taking place, so passengers should plan ahead
• The railway expects people to follow government guidance and out of respect for others, wear a face covering in busy indoor settings unless they are exempt

Network Rail – along with East Midlands Railway, Cross Country and British Transport Police - has joined forces with passengers and people in South Wigston as part of a scheme to tackle trespass and vandalism.
