A driver who jammed his HGV under a bridge carrying the Brighton Main Line through Coulsdon has been banned from driving lorries for six months as a result.

Passengers will once again have direct trains between Carlisle and Newcastle and Carlisle and Skipton from next week after the routes were closed by a major freight train derailment.

Ahead of International Day of Disabled Persons (Saturday 3 December), Network Rail has teamed up with Bristol Sight Loss Council (BSLC) to launch a first-of-its-kind audio guide for Bristol Temple Meads station, to assist blind and partially sighted people with wayfinding.

Network Rail has successfully completed work to clear trees and vegetation on an 8-mile stretch of railway between Evanton and Invergordon in the Scottish Highlands.

Over 30 miles of train-powering electric wires are now in place to help deliver cleaner, greener journeys in the future as part of the multi-billion-pound Transpennine Route Upgrade.

Work is underway on the Levenmouth Rail Link project to protect the future railway from the impact of the adjacent river.
