Network Rail is carrying out urgent embankment strengthening works near Dronfield station this weekend.

To complete this work safely and efficiently, temporary changes are being made to the station car park from Friday 6 to Sunday 8 March.

Contractors are on site today (Friday) to manage deliveries and vehicle movements but about half of the car park remains open for public use.

This work will be expanded overnight to take up most of the car park, which will be unavailable for public use on Saturday and Sunday.

Rail replacement buses are operating this weekend between Sheffield and Chesterfield, serving Dronfield, as a railway bridge over the River Sheaf at Beauchief is replaced.

Passengers are advised to note the car parking arrangements, allow extra time and check details of their journey before travelling.

Grace Donaldson, Network Rail project manager, said:

“We are carrying out urgent groundwork in the Dronfield area this weekend. This work is essential to keep the railway safe.

“We’re sorry for the short notice and any disruption caused. Our teams will be on site throughout the weekend to ensure people can still access their vehicles safely, and to keep disruption to a minimum while we carry out these essential repairs.”

Car parking arrangements at Dronfield station are expected to be back to normal on Monday 9 March.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
