Rail improvements to impact journeys between Maidenhead and Marlow

Network Rail work to renew the track between Bourne End and Marlow will see the railway close for a two-week period from this weekend.  

The essential work will ensure the continued use the Marlow section of the branch and will reduce the need for smaller weekend closures in the future.

From Saturday 14 to Sunday 29 November 2020, buses will replace trains between Bourne End and Marlow. Additional buses will also run directly between Maidenhead and Marlow at peak-times on weekdays. Trains will continue to run between Maidenhead and Bourne End throughout this period, although train times will be different to normal. 

GWR Station Manager for Slough and Maidenhead, Alison Hanscomb, thanked passengers in advance for their patience and reminded them of the changes ahead which these improvement works are helping to bring. She said:

‘’This essential work will see the track between Bourne End and Marlow completely renewed, allowing our customers to continue to use services which are vital to the local community.

“We have been working hard to make sure that people can travel safely and with confidence, and that includes running as many trains and carriages as we can to make extra room, and replacement buses where trains cannot operate, as well as enhanced cleaning and social distancing measures. 

“Please do however, check before you travel and be considerate of others.”   

Network Rail project manager, Paul Armitage, said: “This is a really important piece of work and once completed, the newly replaced railway line will ensure passengers have smoother, more reliable journeys between Marlow and Maidenhead.

“We apologise to both passengers and our railway neighbours for any inconvenience caused by this work.”
