RAIL IMPROVEMENTS CLOSE LEVEL CROSSING

Region & Route:
| Wales & Western: Wales & Borders
| Wales & Western: Western
| Wales & Western
Work to improve the railway track in the Lydney area will mean the temporary closure of the level crossing at Lydney Station for the next four weekends. Network Rail will be renewing the track to the east of Lydney Station.  For safety reasons, there will be no public access across the level crossing and the public footpath to the east of the station will also be subject to a temporary closure whilst the works take place.  This is to allow engineering trains and on-track machines to be used throughout the closure times. Mark Langman, Network Rail’s General Manager for Wales & Marches, said: “We have liaised closely with Gloucester County Council and the emergency services regarding these closures.  Unfortunately, there are no official diversionary routes available during the closure periods.  However, the maintenance is vital to allow us to run a safe and reliable network for the benefit of the public.” The level crossing will be closed between the following times: Friday 29 July (23:30) – Monday 1 August (05:30) Friday 5 August (23:30) – Monday 8 August (05:30) Friday 12 August (23:30) – Monday 15 August (05:30) Friday 19 August (23:30) – Monday 22 August (05:30)

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
