Passengers planning to use train services in South Wales between 16 June and 6 July are being urged to check before they travel, ahead of the next phase of modernisation work between Bristol and Cardiff.

From 16 June until 6 July, there will be changes to some services to allow the work to be carried out along the mainline and at Cardiff Central station. Network Rail and our partners Arriva Trains Wales and GWR, are working together to keep people moving. Rail replacement buses will be in operation on some routes and there will be timetable alterations with less frequent services elsewhere.

Updated timetables will be available five days before each impacted week, providing passengers with up to date information on service changes and advice on the best way to travel.

Dan Tipper, project director for Network Rail, said:  “We would like to thank passengers for their patience and understanding while we undertake this work as part of our Railway Upgrade Plan. We are working closely with Arriva Trains Wales, Great Western Railway and other partners to ensure passengers are able to get to where they need to be during this period.”

Bethan Jelfs, customer services director for Arriva Trains Wales, said: “We would like to thank our customers for their patience whilst this very important railway modernisation work continues.

“It is really important that you plan and keep checking your journey details over the coming weeks to ensure you get the most up to date information.”

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
