Over £200,000 vital upgrade work coming to Spalding level crossing in July
- Region & Route:
- Eastern
- | Eastern: East Midlands
An investment of about £215,000 will deliver essential upgrades to the Winsover Road level crossing in Spalding, improving both rail reliability and safety for all users.
Motorists and pedestrians are being urged to check their journeys before setting off, as the level crossing will fully closed during the following times:
- Saturday 5 July from 8.30pm to Monday 7 July at 7am
- Saturday 12 July from 8.30pm to Monday 14 July at 7am
- Monday 11 August from 9.30pm to Tuesday 12 August at 6.30am
- Tuesday 12 August from 9.30pm to Wednesday 13 August at 6.30am
The comprehensive renovation will replace the life-expired crossing surface, deck units, cill beams (the interface between tarmac and railway), tarmac and road markings.
By scheduling the work when no trains are running, these essential improvements can be completed with the least possible disruption to passenger journeys and local residents.
Matthew Story, works delivery supervisor for Network Rail, said: "This significant investment will deliver a much smoother and safer crossing for both rail and road users. We understand the disruption this essential work may cause and thank the local community for their patience while we complete these important upgrades.
"The current crossing surface has reached the end of its operational life and requires replacement to ensure continued safety and reliability. We've scheduled much of the work overnight and during weekends to minimise disruption to the public."
Road diversion routes will be in place and clearly signposted throughout the closure periods.

About Network Rail
We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.
Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
