Network Rail unlocks site in Nottinghamshire for modular housing development

Network Rail and ilke Homes have announced a significant investment which will see 40 modular homes built on a brownfield site next to Beeston railway station.

The project, which is subject to planning permission, will see the redevelopment of the 2.2-acre site, delivering much-needed housing and car parking around the railway station.

Modular homes - which are built off-site in a factory-controlled setting - are more cost-effective to maintain and have a lower carbon footprint than traditional brick houses, making them a sustainable housing solution.

The development will be backed by government funding after ilke Homes secured a £30million investment from Homes England to increase the capacity of its factory, as part of a scheme to boost modern methods of construction and deliver more modular homes across the UK.

The partnership with ilke Homes supports Network Rail’s strategy to release land for housing to drive economic growth and help communities to thrive, whilst generating capital to fund rail improvements for the benefit of passengers, taxpayers and the economy.

This announcement is further positive news for Beeston following an announcement earlier this year that improvements to accessibility at Beeston railway station will be made. This vital project will make journeys easier for all passengers, particularly those with additional access needs or those carrying heavy luggage or travelling with pushchairs.

Gary Walsh, Route Managing Director for Network Rail’s East Midlands Route, said: “This is a really exciting development which will help to boost the economy in the area, and provide much needed sustainable homes and car parking.

“This is further positive news for the community in Beeston and follows the government announcement earlier this year that a vital project to improve accessibility at the station will take place, making using the station much easier for travellers.
