Region & Route:

| Eastern: East Midlands

Road users in West Langton, Leicestershire are being advised to plan ahead over the week of Monday 19 June until Friday 23 June.

Network Rail are in the process of electrifying the Midland Main Line from Kettering to Wigston. This will help to create a cleaner, greener electrified railway for passengers travelling along this section of the Midland Main Line in the future.

As part of this work, two bridges on West Langton Road will be demolished to provide clearance for equipment needed for electrification.

From Monday 19 June until Friday 23 June 2023 there will be temporary traffic lights at Langton Hall Farm on West Langton Road as well as a temporary speed restriction of 40mph for the duration of the work.

There will also be temporary traffic lights at this location again later in August, with work expected to be completed in early September.

The work has been planned to cause the least amount of disruption to residents and rail passengers, in collaboration with Leicestershire County Council.

Jenny Blake, Senior Sponsor at Network Rail, said: “The electrification of the Midland Main Line is such an important investment for the East Midlands and it will ultimately lead to cleaner, greener and more reliable journeys for passengers.

“We would like to thank everyone for their patience while we carry out this essential work.”

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
