The Swindon and Cricklade Heritage Railway Centre was recently host to a group of civil engineers from Network Rail.  The aim of the day was not only to help the local railway charity improve its service to the public, but to also promote team spirit and foster good working relationships within the newly created team. Ian Frostick, Network Rail’s Western Territory Civil Engineer, said: “Following an internal re-organisation, the day out at the Heritage Centre was fantastic opportunity to forge relationships within our new civil engineering team, as well as help a local charity improve its facilities for the public.  The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all that took part!” The Network Rail team took part in painting historic guards and brake vans, thus enabling them to return to service much earlier than planned.  They also replaced rotten and worn out timbers to a 100 year old set of points and arranged the donation of protective clothing to the centre, thus improving the safety and reliability of the railway.             Clive Thompson, Swindon and Cricklade Heritage Centre Permanent Way Manager, said: “I was personally very pleased to be able to arrange the team day for Network Rail, especially as they are based here in Swindon.  My team was also grateful for the donated protective clothing.  On behalf of the Swindon and Cricklade Heritage Centre, I look forward to further co-operation with Network Rail in the future.”

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
