LATEST ON NORFOLK RAIL SERVICES AFFECTED BY FLOODING

Region & Route:
Eastern: Anglia
| Eastern
Following the flooding resulting from the tidal swell on Friday, the railway line from Norwich to Lowestoft continues to be affected, with the line expected to be closed until Monday 19 November.

Around a third of a mile of track is severely damaged. Engineers are out working to repair embankments and the track where ballast has been washed away, leaving large holes under the line. Patrick Hallgate, Anglia Route Director said: "The damage to the tracks and surrounding embankments has been quite extensive but our engineers are working hard to repair the track and resume services as soon as we can. We will work closely with One railway to keep passengers informed of developments and I would ask for their patience whilst we work to get things back to normal." A shuttle service is operating to Reedham and One Railway is operating a bus replacement service from Norwich to Lowestoft. Passengers are advised to check with national rail enquiries on 08457 48 49 50 or One Railway before they travel. Latest details are available on http://www.onerailway.com/

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
