£1.5m track investment to deliver more reliable journeys in Lincolnshire

A £1.5 million investment will renew nearly 1.2km of track near Snelland, Lincolnshire to deliver smoother, more reliable journeys for passengers travelling between Lincoln and Cleethorpes.
Passengers are advised that the work means buses will replace trains between Cleethorpes and Lincoln/Barton-on-Humber on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October.
Snelland level crossing, on Station Road, will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians from 22.00 on Friday 16 October until 05.30 on Monday 19 October. A signed diversion route via the B1202, B1399 and A158 will be in place.
The track renewal project will replace life-expired track components, reducing the need for maintenance and the chance of a temporary speed restriction being required in the future. Network Rail engineers will use nine engineering trains, road-rail vehicles and other specialist equipment to complete the work.
Eric Larocque, Network Rail’s East Midlands operations director, said:
“We’re investing £1.5 million to renew almost 1.2km of track near Snelland, replacing life-expired components and helping to deliver more reliable journeys for passengers.
“We’re sorry for the disruption and thank passengers and local residents for their patience while we complete these important improvements.”
Passengers should check with East Midlands Railway or National Rail before travelling.

About Network Rail
We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.
Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
