Full train service to resume from Monday as overnight track repair scheduled
A full train service for Greater Anglia services on the Great Eastern Main Line will resume from Monday, with engineers scheduled to install a new specialist piece of track overnight this weekend (16-17 June).
Two platforms at London Liverpool Street station were closed this week following the discovery of a crack in a piece of track during a routine inspection by Network Rail. This affected a number of peak Greater Anglia services using the Great Eastern Main Line.
The section of track is specially made to fit a curve on the approach to the station and the crack is too big to repair, which meant a replacement part was required.
Steve Hooker, Network Rail’s head of maintenance for Anglia, said: “I understand that some passengers will have had some difficult journeys over the last few days and I’d like to apologise to those who have been affected. We have worked as quickly as possible to build a new piece of track so that services can return to normal. I’d like to thank passengers for their patience during this time.”
Jamie Burles, Greater Anglia managing director, said: “I’d like to thank our customers for their patience this week. We have been trying hard to make sure that all customers have been able to get to their destination by train, but we’re sorry that trains were fuller than usual and that there were some delays and cancellations. Liverpool Street is such a busy station, it’s not possible to run all trains in the rush hour as normal when two platforms are closed. We drafted in extra help at affected stations to help customers catch their right train to try to make things a little easier for customers.”
Saturday services will run as scheduled. There may be some changes to morning services on Sunday. Passengers should check before travelling via www.greateranglia.co.uk, the Greater Anglia app or @greateranglia on Twitter or www.nationalrail.co.uk
