Network Rail has secured a budget of more than £2.4billion to provide a safer and more reliable railway for passengers travelling from London Paddington to the west.

Network Rail has significantly changed its plans for a new sleeper facility in Bescot following feedback from local people.

• Major safety upgrade for the region's most misused level crossing 
• Vital work will combat drivers jumping the lights and swerving the barriers
• Speed restriction imposed to stop a collision is now set to be lifted, so trains can travel at full speed again after six years
• Residents warned of two closures in November and January so the work can be completed

Work has begun on the £1.7 million refurbishment of Longbridge station in Birmingham.

Fulton MacGregor Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for Coatbridge & Chryston, visited Coatdyke viaduct to view progress being made by Network Rail engineers to refurbish and strengthen the railway structure which forms the border of his constituency.
