Network Rail engineers will be working around-the-clock this Easter bank holiday to deliver more than £18m of improvements across Scotland’s railway.

Passengers will be able to travel on a specially-chartered shuttle train between Oxenholme and Windermere on the Lake District railway line this weekend.

Helium-filled balloons were today blamed for causing hundreds of train delays for passengers across Britain each year.

Passengers using the East Coast Main Line which links Scotland, the north east of England and London King’s Cross, are being advised to plan ahead as investment in the line will affect services during 13/14 July and August bank holiday.
