Scotland’s Railway has withdrawn services on some lines across Scotland this morning as a safety precaution as Storm Malik blows trees and other debris onto the tracks.

With winds of up to 70mph expected to hit the network from the early hours of Saturday morning (January 29), Scotland’s Railway will be introducing speed restrictions on some lines.

Network Rail will be carrying out tree and vegetation cutting from February until June on the line between Stoney Brae and Ferguslie Park in Paisley.

For the first time, passengers at the busy Barry Station will have a fully accessible, step-free option between platforms 2 and 3. 

A Network Rail report outlining the risks to Britain’s railway posed by climate change and the measures required to improve resilience has been published this morning in partnership with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

The Newquay branch line has reopened as planned this morning (Friday 28 January) following Network Rail successfully completing a number of upgrades to this popular stretch of railway.

Today, Thursday 27 January, the lights outside London Liverpool Street station have been turned purple for Holocaust Memorial Day.
