A special fleet of ‘leaf-busting’ trains have started blasting leaves off the line to help keep passengers and freight moving across the West Midlands, West Coast and Chiltern main lines this autumn.

A fleet of ‘leaf-busting’ trains are now blasting leaves off the line to help keep rail passengers and freight moving across the North West this autumn.

This World Habitat Day (Monday 2 October), Network Rail is celebrating a partnership with Natural England and Somerset Wildlife Trust that’s working to restore and enhance the habitat for a rare butterfly, the Large Blue, at Welham Cutting in Somerset. 

Network Rail and its contractor Story have completed a £34m programme of works to protect a number of bridges across Scotland’s Railway.

Network Rail plans to improve accessibility for passengers at Uddingston station by constructing a new footbridge and lift system.

Network Rail is thanking passengers for their patience and understanding today after the completion of work to renew the track inside the historic Dinmore Tunnel on the Marches line.  

On 27th September 2023, Network Rail and Freightliner hosted industry leaders to celebrate the official opening of its second Operational Training Academy, located in Doncaster Frenchgate Centre. The Operational Training Academy will prepare Freightliner’s freight train drivers for the introduction of in-cab digital signalling on the East Coast Main Line - South.
