Engineers from Network Rail and contractors, AmcoGiffen, completed lifting a fifteen-piece footbridge using a mobile 230-tonne-crane at Llanhilleth, South Wales, last week.  

Update May 2023. Following feedback outlining some concerns from the local community regarding the approach set out in the mural project competition, we have taken the decision to end this competition at this time and carry out a review of the project as a whole to address these concerns and ensure we get the right outcome for everyone. We will therefore end this process while the review takes place and will look at re-launching the competition later on in the year.

The Transpennine Route Upgrade continues to build towards the future of electric rail travel in the North, as industry leaders hail the latest upgrade work at Stalybridge station. 

Network Rail has planted a new 100m hedgerow in a local park, improving biodiversity by providing an ideal habitat for animals, birds and insects.

• West Coast main line passengers urged to 'travel either side' of the Easter bank holiday (Thursday 6 April and Tuesday 11 April)
• Between Good Friday and Easter Monday no trains will run to or from London Euston - services will start and finish at Milton Keynes
• Journeys on those days will involve rail replacement buses, and other routes will be extremely busy
• Currently CrossCountry services through the Midlands are not running south of Oxford with the rail route closed for emergency viaduct repairs
• Long distance travellers are urged to re-check with their train operator on the impact this urgent work has on journeys

As part of the multi-billion-pound Transpennine Route Upgrade, we will be carrying out a series of improvements between Leeds and Neville Hill on Easter Sunday - and the newly-reinforced line through Castleford will help us keep passengers moving while we carry out this work.

• Passengers reminded to plan journeys in advance over this bank holiday weekend as Network Rail carries out a programme of more than 600 projects to improve performance and reliability across Britain
• Majority of network will be open for business as usual, but journeys on some routes will be affected
• Euston station closed for four days- West Coast main line passengers advised to travel either side of bank holiday weekend on Thursday 6 April and Tuesday 11 April
• Oxford-Didcot line remains closed- train operators urging passengers to only travel if journeys are essential

Passengers are being advised to check before they travel after suspected metal thieves caused signalling cables to catch fire on the railway in Shropshire.
