A large landslip near Harbury Tunnel is to keep the line closed between Banbury and Leamington Spa for several weeks.

The footbridge over the railway at Templars Firs reopened yesterday, Monday 2 February, after work to prepare it for electrification was completed on time.

Plans for a new section of rail that will allow European-style Tram Trains to run between Britain’s rail and tram network for the first time are out for consultation.

At around 3pm yesterday (Saturday 31 January), there was an extremely significant landslip in the Harbury area between Leamington Spa and Banbury affecting both train lines and the tunnel.

After an initial assessment it is estimated that around 350,000 tonnes of material will need to be removed and the line between Leamington Spa and Banbury will have to remain closed for at least one week to allow for an investigation to determine the scale of the problem.

At around 3pm today, there was a landslip in the Harbury area between Leamington Spa and Banbury affecting both train lines and the tunnel.

Pedestrians using the footpath over the railway line at Highfield Lane in Maidenhead will notice that it is significantly brighter from today following the installation of a mural designed by pupils from Cox Green School.
