Work to extend platforms at Bardon Mill railway station resumes next week

Network Rail will resume work to extend the platforms at Bardon Mill railway station on Saturday, 6 April.

The work is part of the Great North Rail Project and will see the platforms lengthened which will allow newer, longer trains with more seats to call at the station.

Work began on the project earlier this year but unfortunately had to be paused. Work will resume on Saturday, 6 April and complete by Friday, 3 May. The work will not impact on train services.

Bardon Mill is the third railway station in Northumberland to benefit from this type of investment, which is being carried out by Network Rail and Northern. Work to extend the platforms at Riding Mill station completed in February and similar work at Prudhoe station is well underway.

Rob McIntosh, Route Managing Director for Network Rail, said: "Bardon Mill station is the third in Northumberland to benefit from this vital investment which will enable newer, longer trains to call here and will improve passenger experience.

"We’d like to thank station users and residents for their patience whilst this key upgrade takes place. This work will enable us to continue to provide a railway which meets the needs of the communities and economies we serve."

Guy Opperman MP said: "I am delighted that Bardon Mill station is going to benefit from this new investment as part of the Great North Rail Project.

"I am committed to seeing continued improvements along the Tyne Valley line and this project is exactly what we need. It will give local residents, commuters and visitors the opportunity for more frequent trains and a better journey experience."
