media invitation:  Waverley redevelopment plans Revealed Date:                           Thursday 12 May 2005 Time:                           8.20am Location:                     Waverley Station, Edinburgh Event:                          Transport Minister unveils phase one of £150m project Media contact:             Donna Reid, 0141 555 4109 Commuters will have their first glimpse of the £150 million plan to transform Edinburgh Waverley Station at an exhibition opening on Thursday 12 May. Transport Minister Nicol Stephen will open the three-day presentation by unveiling a scale model of the dramatically improved station. Phase one of the Waverley redevelopment, funded by the Scottish Executive and managed by Network Rail, includes providing an ultra modern entrance to the station from Princes Street, as well as covered stairs and escalators for easier access. A footbridge will span the base of the Waverley Steps and connect with the existing walkway through the station. This phase of the project, worth £6.6 million, will provide a welcoming arrival point into Scotland’s capital. Journalists and photographers are invited to the opening of the exhibition.
