UPDATE: London Charing Cross and Waterloo East reopen following gas leak in nearby area

London Charing Cross and Waterloo East stations have now reopened following repairs to a faulty gas main in a nearby road which required a cordon to be put in place by emergency services.
As a result, no Southeastern services were able to run to or from either Charing Cross or Waterloo East this morning, with services diverted to London Victoria, Cannon Street and Blackfriars. Passengers are advised to check before travelling today as train services will remain disrupted throughout the day while Network Rail and Southeastern work together to get trains and crew which have been displaced by the diversions back where they need to be ready for people’s journeys home this evening.
A Network Rail spokesperson said: “Having received the all-clear from the emergency services, we’ve now reopened Charing Cross and Waterloo East stations and are working with Southeastern to get services back up and running as quickly as possible. We’d like to thank passengers for their patience and understanding while this incident was dealt with."
”A Southeastern spokesperson said: "We thank our passengers for their patience who faced delays and cancellations this morning due to a gas leak near Charing Cross station. Waterloo East and Charing Cross stations have now reopened. However, there may still be a few delays over the next few hours. We're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, and advise passengers to check before they travel by visiting our website, downloading our free travel app 'On Track' or visiting National Rail."
