TOM KELLY TO JOIN NETWORK RAIL AS COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR

Tom Kelly, ex BBC journalist, Prime Minister's spokesman, communications director for BAA and current communications director for the Financial Services Authority, is to join Network Rail.

Announcing the news, David Higgins, chief executive, said: "Tom has a wealth of experience in the field of communications that will be invaluable as Network Rail continues its massive programme of change."

Mr Kelly added: "I will be joining Network Rail at a time when the company needs to communicate better than ever with its customers, the wider public, its people and government. I hope to play my part in helping the company evolve into its new form."

  • After sixteen years with the BBC working in Belfast and London, Mr Kelly spent nearly a decade in Government, first as director of communications at the Northern Ireland Office, and then, from 2001 to 2007, as the Prime Minister's official spokesman. Following Downing Street, Mr Kelly moved to BAA before taking up his current role as communications director at the FSA
