SUPPLIERS ONBOARD STATION RENEWALS CONTRACTS

Region & Route:
National

Network Rail’s programme to renew and improve stations received a boost with the appointment of three specialist contractors.

The firms, May Gurney, J Murphy and G Osborne signed new framework agreements with Network Rail which cover work at stations, such as platforms, bridges, lifts and car parks as well as Network Rail depots and other property.

Under the programme, Network Rail expects to invest around £15m in the first year of the contracts and then between £25m-£30m for each of the subsequent years.

The new framework follows a review of how Network Rail carries out its station renewals work, which reduced the number of suppliers from five to three. This will improve the way renewals are carried out while increasing efficiencies.

Ian Sexton, head of strategic sourcing at Network Rail said: “Our new agreements mean that we can deliver better value for money while we renew and improve our stations and facilities for all those who use the railway.

“We were impressed by the level of competition during the tendering process, and we are looking forward to working with our contractors in carrying out our major estates investment programme.”

The framework agreements are set for an initial two year period with the option to extend for a further three years.

Notes to editors

The framework agreements nominally cover three geographical areas, Southern, London North East and London North West, however Network Rail can deploy each supplier across the entire network: Southern (including East Anglia, South Eastern, Southern, Wessex and Western): G Osborne London North West: J Murphy London North East: May Gurney The contracts are nil value NR13C Framework Agreements, with contracts being awarded via NR3 (Professional Services), NR4 (Simple Works), NR8 (ICE Measurement) NR9 (ICE D & C), NR11 (MF/1) and NR 12(ICE Target Cost). The frameworks are not limited to maximum or minimum values, however they will normally be used for works between £250k up to £1.5m in value.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
