Strikes to close Liverpool Lime Street at 7pm on Thursday & Saturday

Region & Route:
North West & Central
| North West & Central: North West
  • Passengers advised not to get caught out by RMT strike action by train operating staff
  • Liverpool Lime Street station will close early at 7pm on strike days this week
  • Advice is to check before travelling by using National Rail Enquiries

Passengers planning on travelling during RMT strike action involving multiple train operators on Thursday 16 and Saturday 18 March are being warned not to get caught out with trains finishing much earlier than normal.

Many last trains will leave between 3pm and 5pm and arrive at their final destinations before 7pm.

Liverpool Lime Street station will close completely at 7pm on both days.

Services will also start later than usual on the days after each strike as train operating staff return to work.

Passengers are urged to check www.nationalrail.co.uk so they know exactly what to expect.

People can also get more detail from their individual train operators through these links:

Although industrial action by Network Rail staff in the RMT union has been suspended as members vote on a revised pay deal, strikes for train operators are still going ahead.

Kyla Thomas, Liverpool Lime Street station manager for Network Rail, said: “Our staff will be on hand at Lime Street to help passengers on the strike days this Thursday and Saturday but our advice to people is to please plan their journeys in advance so they don't get caught out by trains finishing much earlier than normal. We don’t want people to be unable to get home again from a day trip to Liverpool, so please check National Rail Enquiries or with your train operator so you know your earlier train times on the strike days.”

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
