Safety improvements to Nottinghamshire level crossing completed

Network Rail has successfully completed a project to improve safety at Nature Reserve level crossing in Attenborough.

Miniature Stop Lights (MSLs) have been installed at the crossing, which will give users a clear message about when it is safe to cross. When the green light is lit up, users can cross the railway and when the red light is lit, users must wait at the crossing until the light turns green.

Network Rail previously held public information events to engage with residents before arriving at the decision to install MSLs to improve safety for crossing users.

Andrew Murray, Director of Route Asset Management for Network Rail, said: “Safety is Network Rail’s top priority and we are delighted that this vital project, which will give users a clear message when they should cross, has now completed.

“We’d like to thank residents for engaging with us on this and we believe that this work will create a safer railway for all users.”

Network Rail is continuing to look at plans to downgrade the status of the level crossing from a public bridleway to a public footpath and cycleway. To do this, Network Rail will apply to the Highway Authority for a Traffic Regulation Order. This would maintain access for all current users, apart from horse riders and Network Rail is working closely with stakeholders on this.
